Application Information
The Avista Foundation supports non-profit organizations that are benefiting communities and citizens in geographic areas served by Avista Utilities. These areas generally include:

• eastern Washington
• northern Idaho
• southern Oregon
• Sanders County, Montana

Focus Areas
The Avista Foundation focuses its giving in the areas of:

• 

education – supporting K-12 education particularly in the fields of science, math and technology; and higher education including scholarships.

 
  • provide college scholarships for engineering, IS and the crafts to address utility's future workforce gap
  • increase pipeline of kids seeking engineering and technical careers by increasing interest in math, science and technology
  • provide opportunities for underserved kids (limited income and minority) to seek a college education
  • seed long-term energy conservation behaviors in kids that complement educational goals in reading, math and science
• 

vulnerable and limited income populations – providing assistance to those on limited incomes and support for initiatives to reduce poverty.

 
  • ease the burden of energy prices to customers most in need
  • provide enhanced level of support to senior and more vulnerable customers
  • provide energy conservation education to senior, vulnerable and limited income customers
  • support community-wide safety net services for basic needs costs
• 

economic and cultural vitality – supporting projects that help our communities and citizens to grow and prosper.

 
  • support capital projects that provide vital civic and social infrastructure and economic growth
  • support signature community events and programs that provide significant community identity and quality of life
Eligibility
Several factors are considered in determining eligibility of an organization or program for funding by the Avista Foundation. To be eligible for consideration, an organization must:

• Be tax exempt under the IRS and provide a copy of its 501(c)(3) determination letter
• Impact an area of focus for the Avista Foundation
• Benefit communities and citizens in geographic areas served by Avista Utilities

Limitations
The Avista Foundation makes every effort to direct its funding in areas that have the greatest impact. Not eligible for grant consideration are requests from:

•  Organizations located outside Avista Utilities’ service area
•  Individuals; team or extra-curricular school events; fund raising events; trips or tours; religious, veterans or fraternal organizations
•  Organizations that discriminate for any reason, such as race, color, religion, creed, age, sex or national origin
•  Organizations without 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
•  National health organizations (or their local affiliates) or research/disease advocacy groups
•  Memorial campaigns

Application Process

Qualified organizations interested in applying for a grant must complete the Avista Foundation Grant Application, which is available online by clicking the "Grant Application" link below. Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November, although organizations are encouraged to submit applications at any time.
